Welcome to Provestor - Your First Steps

Welcome! You've taken the first step towards getting Making Tax Digital ready, and you're in the right place. Provestor will help you meet your Making Tax Digital requirements without the complexity of traditional accounting software.

This setup takes about 10 minutes. Once you're done, you'll see your quarterly deadlines and be ready to start recording income and expenses.

Let's get you up and running.

What you'll need

Have these ready before you start:

  • Your HMRC login details — Your Government Gateway user ID and password. If you don't have these, HMRC can help you.
  • Your National Insurance number — Provestor uses this to fetch your tax information from HMRC.
  • Basic property details — Property names and ownership percentages if you jointly own any properties.
  • Your banking setup — Whether you use a dedicated business bank account, your personal account, or work with a letting agent.

Step 1. Connect to HMRC

You'll authorise Provestor to access your Making Tax Digital information by logging in through HMRC's secure portal. Provestor only accesses the minimum data needed to manage your tax obligations.

Step 2. Verify your property business

Provestor checks with HMRC to confirm you're registered for Making Tax Digital and that your UK property business is set up. If HMRC hasn't registered your property business yet, we'll guide you through what to do next.

Step 3. Add your properties

Tell Provestor about each rental property you own. You'll need the property name, type (residential or FHL), and ownership percentage if jointly owned. Don't worry, you can add more properties later.

Step 4. Set up bank accounts

Answer a few questions about how you manage banking for your rental properties. Provestor will create the right account structure based on whether you use a dedicated business account, personal account, or work with a letting agent.
